We're building the meal planner
we wished we had.
Mise (mēz) — French, from mise en place: 'everything in its place.' It's the prep that makes a kitchen calm. We think weeks of cooking deserve the same.
Why we're building this
Mise starts the way most kitchen apps don't: in actual kitchens. We were tired of stitching together five different fitness apps, a Pinterest board, and three open Notion pages just to answer "what's for dinner this week?"
We wanted a planner that got it: the marathon block, the picky kid, the one bunch of cilantro about to die in the crisper. Something that planned the week, not the recipe — then walked you through cooking it.
Today's Mise does that. It builds your week, talks back as Sage when you want a swap or a substitute, walks you through dinner in Cook Mode, and reads a photo of your fridge to keep your pantry honest. The AI is the engine, not the product — the product is a calmer week of dinners.
Four small principles that have done a lot of work.
Cook first.
Software cannot improve cooking from a distance. Every contributor cooks something Mise plans every week.
The week is the unit.
Recipes are tiny tactical objects. Weeks are the scale of habit, money, waste, and joy.
Privacy is a feature.
We don't train on your data. Your health metrics live on your device unless you explicitly share them.
Calm software.
Mise should never panic you. No streak shaming, no notification roulette, no dark patterns.
Small. Cooks. Hires slowly.
We're a small founding team that ships less than we'd like to and cooks more than we'd admit. We'll introduce ourselves properly once there's something worth introducing — for now, the work is the resume.
