Getting started
Is Mise free?
Free includes the full 7,500-recipe catalogue, Cook Mode, unlimited manual pantry and grocery lists, saved recipes, Apple Health body-metric sync, cooking streaks, and the full Learn library. Its AI feature maxima are 1 plan every 14 days, 5 Sage messages per rolling 30 days, 1 Photo → Pantry scan per rolling 30 days, and 2 photo-label Product Fit scans per rolling 30 days; those maxima share a fair-use AI safety allowance. Barcode and cached Product Fit checks remain available under a generous abuse guard. No credit card. Mise Plus ($9.99/mo or $79.99/yr) unlocks AI features for normal personal use, meal swaps, full-plan regeneration, receipt and menu scanning, custom recipe generation, recipe import, Samsung fridge-camera integration when available, smart grocery pricing, and pantry expiration reminders.
Does Mise Plus have a free trial?
Eligible new subscribers can try annual Mise Plus free for 14 days; the $9.99 monthly plan begins billing immediately. The App Store determines eligibility. Trial feature maxima are 3 complete plan generations (including regenerations), 30 Sage messages, 5 combined pantry, receipt, menu, or product-label photo scans, 5 AI meal swaps, and 3 combined custom recipe generations or imports, with matching cover generation when needed. Those maxima share a trial-wide AI safety allowance. Family Plus does not include a free trial. After the trial, annual Mise Plus renews at $79.99/year unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the trial ends.
What platforms does Mise run on?
Mise launches on iPhone first (iOS 17+). Android is on the roadmap — when it ships the same plan, pantry, and grocery list will sync across both.
Do I need a fitness tracker?
No. Mise works great with manual entry. If you connect Apple Health, Mise reads weight and body-composition signals so plans adapt as you do — but it's not required.
Plans & cooking
What is Cook Mode?
Open any recipe and tap Start cooking. Mise becomes a full-screen sous-chef — big type for hands-on-counter readability, swipe-through steps, and timers that auto-detect from the recipe text. A step that says "bake 25 minutes" gets a timer card you can start with one tap.
What can Sage do?
Sage is Mise's AI sous-chef. Chat in plain English — or hold the mic for voice — and Sage runs real actions: swap Thursday's dinner for something lighter, add chickpeas to your pantry, regenerate the whole week as vegetarian, look up what's for dinner tonight, pull up your grocery list. Sage remembers what you've told it across sessions so you don't have to keep re-explaining. Free has a maximum of 5 messages per rolling 30 days within its shared AI safety allowance; Sage actions such as swaps and full-plan regeneration require Mise Plus. Paid access is included for normal personal use, subject to abuse-prevention and emergency spend safeguards.
How does the Tweak Meal menu work?
On any meal in your plan, tap Tweak meal and pick one of: Lighter, Heartier, Faster, Vegetarian, or +Protein. Mise re-rolls just that slot with the steer you picked, then updates the grocery list to match. The rest of the week stays put. (Tweak Meal is Plus.)
What if I don't like a meal?
Free members can browse all 7,500 catalogue recipes and save another option manually. Mise Plus can regenerate the full plan or use Tweak Meal for a directional nudge (Lighter, Faster, etc.); either action updates the grocery list automatically.
How long are recipes?
You set the cap. Most weeknights are 25–35 minutes; weekends can be longer if you ask. Mise will never schedule a 90-minute braise on a Tuesday unless you opt in.
Pantry & shopping
What is Photo → Pantry?
Open Settings → Plan inputs → My pantry, tap the camera icon, and snap your fridge or pantry shelf. Mise reads the photo with OpenAI vision and returns a list of what it sees, each row tagged with a confidence score (low-confidence items are unchecked by default). Tap Add and the items go into your pantry — Mise then plans around what you already have. Uploads use access-controlled, per-user storage, are scheduled for deletion after the scan, and Mise does not use them to train models. Free has a maximum of 1 scan per rolling 30 days within its shared AI safety allowance; Plus includes scans for normal personal use.
What about scanning a grocery receipt?
Same camera menu, tap "Scan a grocery receipt." Mise parses every line item, decodes the abbreviations ("BNLSS CHKN THGH" → boneless chicken thighs), and tags perishables with a conservative shelf-life estimate so a "use this week" card surfaces on Home. Receipt scanning is a Plus feature.
Are the grocery prices real?
Yes, where we can get them. Every grocery item is tagged $/$/$$ and matched against the cheapest store nearby that actually stocks it. Prices come from Kroger's public API where they cover the store, and USDA AMS national averages everywhere else. If a price would be a guess, Mise leaves it blank rather than fake one.
Can I import recipes from Safari, Instagram, or a friend?
Yes. Paste a recipe URL into the Import tab, or use the iOS share sheet from any app — Safari, Instagram, Reels, a Notes app — and pick Mise to import the recipe automatically. Mise normalizes ingredients and folds the recipe into your plan. (Recipe import is Plus.)
Can Mise actually order my groceries?
Coming in v2. Mise is built ready: every item carries a quantity and unit so we can hand it to Instacart, Walmart, or Amazon Fresh without changing your plan. The plumbing exists; we're waiting on the right partner deal.
Eating out
What is the Menu Analyzer?
When you're at a restaurant whose chain Mise doesn't have curated, snap a photo of the menu. OpenAI vision reads it and Sage ranks 3-5 items by how well they fit the macros you have left for the meal — including avoiding any allergens you've configured. Menu Analyzer is a Plus feature.
Do you have curated chain menus too?
Yes. Open the Eating Out card and pick from the chains we cover — Chipotle, Sweetgreen, Cava, Panera, and others — Mise picks the best macro fit from the actual menu without you needing to scan anything. The curated picks stay free.
Health
How does workout-aware calorie tracking work?
Connect Apple Health and Mise reads your active-energy burn + workout count for the day. The Home tab shows a "+X kcal of headroom" card based on 70% of measured burn (a conservative haircut to account for Apple Health's tendency to over-report movement). Sage automatically knows you trained when you chat — so it can budget the extra calories accordingly. Workout-aware is a Plus feature.
Does Mise track my streak?
Yes. Every completed Cook Mode session logs to your Progress tab. The streak hero shows consecutive days with at least one finished session (yesterday-tolerant so a slow morning doesn't punish you), and a 7-day grid shows daily kcal + protein hit rate. Streaks are free for everyone.
Households
Can my whole family use Mise on one subscription?
Yes — that's Family Plus. The household owner creates a household and generates a 6-character invite code; members join with one tap. Pick the band that fits your house: 4 members ($14.99/mo or $129.99/yr), 6 members ($20.99/mo or $179.99/yr), or 8 members ($26.99/mo or $229.99/yr). Past 4 it works out to about $3/mo per additional person. Everyone's dietary restrictions automatically merge into the plan, so a household with one peanut-allergic and one gluten-free member just gets a plan that's safe for both.
How does Mise handle a household with different macro targets?
Each member keeps their own goal + body-metric tracking — the household shares the plan, not the targets. v1 ships the merged-restrictions plan; per-person macro views land in a follow-up after we see real households use it.
Diets & restrictions
Does Mise handle allergies, religion, and medical conditions?
Yes. Restrictions are first-class — set once and they're respected forever. The dietary vocabulary has 1,200+ entries covering allergens, religious observance (kosher, halal), conditions (DASH, FODMAP, renal, GLP-1), and ingredients you love or avoid. The search field knows scallions are green onions are spring onions.
Can I follow keto / low-carb / Mediterranean?
Pick a preset or compose your own macro targets. Mise will plan within your envelope.
Can two people share one plan?
Yes, with Family Plus. The household owner creates a household and invites members on one subscription, with three bands: up to 4 ($14.99/mo), up to 6 ($20.99/mo), or up to 8 ($26.99/mo). Everyone's restrictions and allergies merge into one safe plan. Per-person macros and a fully shared grocery list land in a follow-up after we see real households use it.
Privacy
Where is my health data stored?
With your permission, selected weight and body-composition observations may be saved to your Mise profile to show trends and personalize plans. They are shared with OpenAI only after a separate AI-data-sharing approval for the feature you request. You can delete your account from Settings, or request a copy of your Mise data by emailing privacy@getmise.org.
What happens to photos I take with Photo → Pantry?
They upload to an access-controlled path scoped to your account and are used only for the scan you requested. Mise attempts to delete each upload as soon as the scan completes or fails. If that cleanup fails, a sweep every five minutes retries eligible uploads once they are more than two hours old. Scan photos are never used to train models.
Do you train AI on my data?
No. We don't train models on your data. Period.
Account
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. Cancel from the App Store like any other iOS subscription — no email roulette. You keep Plus access through the end of your billing period.
What happens to my data if I cancel?
Canceling a subscription drops the account back to the free tier, so your plans, pantry, and Sage memories stay. Deleting the account is different: after you type the confirmation and the request succeeds, Mise deletes the active account and user-owned data with no 30-day undo window. Encrypted backups age out within 30 days.
